Short Crust is a case for the Raspberry Pi which is designed to look attractive, be easy to use and be adaptable for different types of projects. It has a simple and elegant look and is designed to be used with a variety of projects – and look great whilst doing so. It features a very easy to use “snap in place” mounting method for the Raspberry Pi which keeps it very secure, but easy to remove from the case when you want to. It uses a simple flat top cover, which makes it extremely easy for you to customise the case yourself – with different colours or materials. Additionally due to the brass screw thread mounting points you can customise the case in other ways – with extensions and stacking of components above the Raspberry Pi.

Cable management becomes a breeze with the Short Crust case, and it keeps your SD card very well protected due to its extended length.

Please note: this case will only work with the Model A and Model B Raspberry Pis and is not compatible with the Model B+. There is, however, a new version of the Short Crust to fit the Model B+ which you can find here.

I received the Short Crust case today, and I must say, it fully live up to my expectations.

This is the most well engineered case I have seen by far. These guys really did some great design work making this case. They even relocated the micro USB power connector so all cables connect at one end of the case. The wires used to relocate the USB connector, are neatly tucked into the bottom of the case, held in place by small tabs. Brilliant !

Even better, the SD card is fully protected without adapters and without making the case bulky. You can even remove or swap the CD card without opening the case.

The case is made with absolute precision. It fits the PI perfectly, holding it snugly in place. Just put in the PI, give it a slight push, you will hear a click, and the PI is held tightly in place. Simple and efficient.

The case accepts a ribbon cable if you need to connect to components outside the case. In my setup, I only need to connect 4 wires, so I use individual jumper wires. The standard Molex connector however is slightly higher than the case allow. A few seconds with a Dremel though, and I had trimmed down the connectors just enough to fit tightly in place under the cover.

The case has two mounting holes, located next to the PI (you don’t use the screw holes in the PI circuit board). If you need to install the case on a surface permanently, these holes will allow you fasten the case without risking damaging the PI.

The only thing I can think of as a wish list for this case, would be for the mounting holes to be key holes. If the case is fixed to a surface, it will impossible to remove the SD card without loosening the case from surface. One of the screws is very close the USB connector, so you may risk accidentally breaking the connector when unscrewing the case. This could have been remedied if the screw holes had been key holes.

No matter what project you intent for your PI, this is definitely a case to consider.

One of the best cases around, great looks and even better design.

With precision cutouts for the ports you have no fear of cables bending and breaking the ports on the PI, made from sturdy plastics the PI is very well protected. Using the SD card slot is now a joy, simple slide the cards in and out again without the fear or bending pins.

The design allowing to remove the board from the case is great. It simple to click into place. Air seems to flow around the board fine, didn’t get the sense the board was getting hot in the case, but then again I do have heat sinks on my PI as I tend to over clock it.

I sometimes use the old style video and audio out and I have found that I can store the cut out cover inside the case by tucking it just under the new longer power cable at the far end, hard to describe but it fits well.

Pi Supply have been great my order was taking a long time to arrive but the after contacting Pi Supply team they was quick to arrange for a second case to to be sent out, but almost on the last day before they re sent my case arrived, it was stuck in customs for a few week, of course this is out of the control of Pi Supply and not there fault.

I’ve wrote a blog post about the case, you can read about it here: http://www.bartbania.com/index.php/short-crust-almostperfect-case-for-raspberry-pi/

The Short Crust was a great product. My only complaint is that the screen arrived scratched on the sides, and that it didn’t come with the type of screwdriver required to close the lid. It looks great, performs well, and I’d recommend it to anyone, so long as you either have the right screwdriver, or don’t mind scrounging for something makeshift.

Just received the case from pi-supply. I was a bit concerned as I had ordered it from India but it arrived in good condition 20 days after I placed the order. It was well worth the wait, the case is very well made with excellent finishing and easily has one of the best overall design among all the rasberry pi cases.

As the others have said, this is an excellent case – both aesthetically pleasing and practically designed, it’s an ideal setting for your Pi project.
