The Pi Supply Switch is the solution to all of your Raspberry Pi power management problems. It is an “intelligent”, ATX style power supply switch for the revolutionary Raspberry Pi computer. It allows you to leave all of the power wires from the “wall wart” all the way through to the Pi permanently connected with just the quick push of a switch to turn the power on or off. Simple!

The Pi Supply Switch is compatible with the Raspberry Pi3. Please read the Assembly Guide for further information.

Get one of the Pi Supply printed circuit boards, as well as all of the parts you need to put it together into a working unit, including a flat noodle USB cable to connect to your wall-wart power supply. Also includes a free Pi Supply sticker.

The Pi Supply Switch is the solution to all of your Raspberry Pi power management problems. It is an “intelligent”, ATX style power supply switch for the revolutionary Raspberry Pi computer. It allows you to leave all of the power wires from the “wall wart” all the way through to the Pi permanently connected with just the quick push of a switch to turn the power on or off. Simple!

How does it work?

Once you have finished using your Raspberry Pi, you just shutdown using the sudo halt command, and then a couple of minutes after the full and safe shutdown the Pi Supply Switch cuts the power to the computer. From this point, once again, all you would need to do to restore power to the Pi is touch the on button.

There is also a hard power off button for use in emergencies which immediately cuts the power to your Raspberry Pi. Remember to only use this button when absolutely necessary (e.g. Pi has been frozen for a long time) as it risks corruption of the files on your SD card if done at the wrong moment.

What makes the Pi Supply Switch superior to other makeshift solutions available is that it allows you to restart the Raspberry Pi using the sudo reboot command without the power turning itself off. Perfect!

Putting it together

We have made the Pi Supply Switch a self-solder kit which is quick and simple to put together – even for an absolute beginner to electronics. This means as well as being a nifty little bit of kit to manage your Pi’s power, it is also a great intro to electronics and soldering. As you can see from the pictures the input and output of the switch is fed by a standard USB connection. We even provide you with the USB cable. Once soldered together, is essentially “plug-and-play” with your existing “wall wart” power supply unit.

We have even packaged the circuit into a small profile so that it fits neatly into your workstation. The Pi Supply Switch is an essential piece of kit for all Raspberry Pi users!

    Kit excellent and went together well if you are reasonable at soldering.
    Worked 1st go.
    Just needs a little plastic box to fit into like the case the Pi board is fitted into.

    I’m a beginner at soldering, but this kit was very easy to assemble if you have steady hands 😉 It took me about an hour and then the Pi-Supply was ready to go.

    The product works like a charm and is worth every Penny.

    The script for the soft-off-button is easy to implement and it’s fun to use the Pi-Supply.

    A must-have for every RPi-owner.

    This Kit is great! It is easy to put together and works perfectly with the code supplied on the site. I run several headless Pi projects and when i loose connectivity for some reason I can always safely shutdown the Pi with the soft shutdown button. Great product. I used a small pedometer case to enclose the switch but I think some clear heat shrink tubbing would also work.

    Excellent bit of kit!! Using for my Car PC, I can now safely start and shut down the Pi automatically using the Pi Supply.

    I had already used the suggested pin 7 for my Si4703 radio module so connected the Pi Supply to pins 8 and 12. Works very well. Despite my novice soldering skills, the kit was very easy to put together (about 45 minutes). The python script was easy to create and implement using this sites tutorial.

    I had some queries which the support team answered quickly and professionally. I can’t recommend them or the product enough.

    100% recommended, I’ll be coming back!

    Great product ! Note that BC548 transistors was missing in my kit. I’d to buy them (not expensive but I live far from electronic components shops, in the countryside, so i’d to take the car, go to the town and so on … 😉

    Easy to assemble and works! I would like to see slightly larger pads, some components can be a little tricky to solder, but not a big problem.

    I did not use the push-buttons that came with it, but instead soldered wires for ‘external’ buttons. This works too.

    The downside of using this switch is that you need to take into account that an extra usb cable is needed. The one bundled with the kit did not work at all for me, since it was way too long causing too high voltage drop. I found two 0.15 cm cables that worked instead.

    Overall, great kit and the soft-kill stuff is very valuable!

    Nice kit. The pads for the capacitor could be a bit bigger to make it easier for soldering. Would be nice if a casing could be made for this board.

    My kit came in. Looks great. I am wondering if you can recommend a larger, mountable switch that I can wire to the board? I am building a wall sign and want to mount the switch on the frame.
